Speech Pathology Week – #SLP2Bchat Twitter live chat- Mon 25th Aug 8pm AEST

August 2014 marks the first birthday of #slp2bchat! The first chat took place during Speech Pathology Week in 2013. It was themed #starttheconversation and garnered a great response from #slp2b. 811 Tweets were sent and 120 participants were involved.

This year, Speech Pathology Australia released the following announcement of SP week.

In a world where everybody speaks, imagine if you could not? Well, that’s the challenge that confronts over 1.1 million Australians every single day! The challenge that Speech Pathology Australia is highlighting during Speech Pathology Week 2014.

Speech Pathology Week will run from 24-30 August with the theme: ‘Nation for Communication’.

During the week, speech pathologists all across the country are aiming to make Australia a ‘Nation for Communication’ by increasing the understanding of communication disorders and how they impact on people’s lives.

For this #slp2bchat in August, we will have a discussion about #ICP2014. Please join in to share your experience and ask questions to peers. It will take place on Monday the 28th of July at 8pm AEST.

The chat will follow the structure below:

8:00pm: Everyone introduce themselves and say hi!
8:05pm: T1. Were you ever involved with advocacy or raising the profile of communication disorders?
8:20pm: T2. What part do you think #slp2b can play in advocacy? Are there any barriers to involvement?
8:35pm: T3. How are you celebrating #SPweek and will you post a pic?
8:45pm: T4. What positive changes would you like to see as a result out of #SPweek and #ICP2014?
9:00pm: The chat will end. Feel free to continue the conversation if you wish!

Please don’t hesitate to ask for help if you are new to Twitter; send a tweet to the moderators Danielle and Lilli to get your questions answered. When writing Tweets during/about the chat, please do not forget to add #SLP2Bchat to ensure that people see your tweets!

We look forward to catching up this Monday 26th May at 8pm! (AEST)

#SLP2Bchat Twitter live chat- Mon 30th June, 8pm AEST

None of us are strangers to pre-exam butterflies and seeing social media blow up with posts like these in the last couple of weeks:

SocialMediaExams

For those of you who are feeling a bit worn down and weary, we have a post-exam chat for you to de-stress and reflect (we know how much #SLPeeps love to reflect!). Universities often have resources for students to use in preparation for exam time but are these always practical for the student juggling study, work, family and friends?

This month’s chat will be time to catch up and also allow for suggestions for our following chats in 2014.  It will take place on Monday 30th of June at 8pm AEST.

The four questions will include:

8:00pm: Everyone introduce themselves and say hi!
8:05pm: T1. What are your rewards for a good study session?
8:20pm: T2. What three things do you want to remember to do (or not do!) in the next set of exams?
8:35pm: T3. What is your favourite coping mechanism and strategies for getting through exams in one piece?
8:45pm: T4. Is there anything you would do differently to prepare for exams??
9:00pm: The chat will end. Feel free to continue the conversation if you wish!

Please feel free to ask for help if you are new to Twitter; send a tweet to the moderators Danielle and Lilli to have your questions answered. When writing Tweets during/about the chat, please do not forget to add #SLP2Bchat to ensure that people see your tweets!

We look forward to catching up with you all for #SLP2Bchat very soon!

#SLP2Bchat Twitter live chat – Mon 26th May, 8pm AEST

Welcome back to #SLP2Bchat for May!

You may be aware that on the 18-21st of May this year, the Speech Pathology Australia conference was held in Melbourne. Both of our student moderators attended and met for the very first time!

We both had a marvellous time meeting and getting to know people from Twitter who came up to us during the conference! It was a busy week, with a wide variety of engaging and thought provoking sessions/workshops being held – over 136 presentations! If you followed along, the hashtag #SPAconf was used extensively by some delegates to keep those who could not attend informed. Consequently, our theme this month is ‘Conferences: Learning & Networking – How valuable is it?’.

Our topics for Monday night will be:

8:00pm: Everyone introduce themselves and tell us where you are!
8:05pm: T1. Does your university encourage you to attend professional conferences? Have you ever been to one?
8:15pm: T2. Do you think that students benefit from sessions that are beyond their current knowledge or experience?
8:30pm: T3. How do you think conferences could be improved for students to benefit more
8:45pm: T4. Have you ever followed a conference hashtag? Is it useful to read conference tweets?
9:00pm: The chat ends. Feel free to continue the conversation if you wish.

Please feel free to ask for help if you are new to Twitter; send a tweet to the moderators Danielle and Lilli to get your questions answered. When writing Tweets during/about the chat, please do not forget to add #SLP2Bchat to ensure that people see your tweets!

We look forward to catching up this Monday 26th May at 8pm! (AEST)

#SLP2Bchat Twitter live chat- Mon 28th April, 8pm AEDT

April’s #SLP2Bchat will be the first time we have a very special guest Tweeter. The chat will take place on the 28th of April at 8pm AEST!

This month #SLP2Bchat have invited the fabulous and very generous @speechwoman. Dr Caroline Bowen will be joining us for the April chat. We are very excited and very honoured for her to be a part of it. Caroline is a big support of #SLP2Bchat. More recently she along with @BronwynHemsley has developed @WeSpeechies.

The chat will run a little differently to usual. The first half of the chat will consist of questions that we can discuss with Caroline on the role of Twitter for #SLP2B.

The first half of the chat:

8:00pm: Everyone introduce themselves and say hi!

8:05pm: Do you think that #SLP2B can benefit from Twitter, if so in what way?

8.12pm: Final chance to ask Caroline any questions about ‘being successful in social media’ – what does it take for students? Make your question as small or as big as you like!

8:20pm: How will Twitter impact on students whilst studying in time to come?

The second half of the chat:

8:30pm: The moderators will ask Caroline questions that have been sent to us previously by you. You are also welcome to send questions Caroline’s way.  But be careful – Caroline will also have some questions for you!

8.45pm: As students, do you all have any top tips for fellow students who may be Lurking or Not Yet In Twitter? Share them with us!

You are invited to email questions to either danielle.kennedy@uon.edu.au or lkrikheli@students.latrobe.edu.au if you can’t make the chat or would like your questions to be anonymous.

Otherwise get your thinking caps on and questions ready for 8pm (AEST) on the 28th of April, and Tweet them in!

Remember, ask for help if you are new to Twitter. You can send a Tweet to @dmkennedy92 or @lilliterate and we can reply with some tips.

Remember – add the hashtag! #SLP2Bchat – it is the best way to make sure everyone will notice your Tweet.

We look forward to catching up on Monday 28th of April at 8pm! (AEST)

#SLP2Bchat Twitter live chat – Monday 31st March, 8pm AEDT

Welcome back to our second #SLP2Bchat for 2014! We hope everyone has had an enjoyable first month at uni. Once again, we invite all #SLP2b to contribute to #SLP2bchat next Monday night. Our theme this month is Spinning Plates: Balancing study, work, family and friends as an #SLP2B.

For some, earning while learning has become essential for those who study at university. A 2013 Universities Australia report indicated that students are working more hours than ever before during semester (Universities Australia, 2013). People are living away from home, raising children, working with a fulltime timetable … the list goes on! We will be discussing this and also ask for more suggestions for our chat in 2014. To the extent that you are willing to share your views in a public discussion, we would love to hear about your experiences of ‘balance’ as an #SLP2B.

Our topics for Monday night will be:

8:00pm: Everyone introduce themselves and say hi!
8:05pm: T1. What sort of commitments or  ‘plates’ do you have to keep spinning whilst studying?
8:20pm: T2.What is the most difficult part about keeping everything balanced?
8:35pm: T3. What strategies do you use to keep you on track with your studies?
8:50pm: T4. Is it really possible to balance our commitments so that we can have the best of all worlds
9:00pm: The chat ends. Feel free to continue the conversation if you wish.

Please feel free to ask for help if you are new to Twitter; send a tweet to the moderators
@dmkennedy92 and @lilliterate to get your questions answered. When writing Tweets about the chat, please do not forget to add #SLP2Bchat to ensure that people will see your tweets.

We look forward to catching up on Monday 31st March, 8pm! (AEDST)
